Codsall Castle Signal Box is a small signal box with a minimal number of signals located between Glassbury Junction and Marigot Crossing. The box does not usually sustain high volumes of traffic due to it being on the underused Glassbury Junction branch line.

The signal box does not see electric trains due to the lack of electrification on the branch line which it operates.

Operation

The traffic receives traffic from both Marigot Crossing and Glassbury Junction. All lines in and out of the signalling area are single tracked however there is a loop provided outside the station, on the Marigot Crossing side, where trains can pass each other.

Permissive Working is prohibited at the station.

The station that the signal box controls is a request stop so trains should be signalled as quickly as possible through the signal box.

SPaD countermeasures

There are no countermeasures provided within the signal box, however a loop is provided where trains could be directed to prevent SPaDs.

Block Indicators/Bells

Both routes out of Codsall Castle use the Absolute Block system hence, block indicators and bells are required for the boxes either side of Codsall.

Trivia

  • Some of the windows at this box are functional and can be dragged open.
