Turntables were items that drivers can use to switch sides on their trains. As all were removed, there haven't been any turntables in the game since Version 1.0. In Version 7072, there existed two turntables, one at Fanory Mill and another just north of Pallion Harbour. Historically, there were four turntables, with two additional ones being located at the Satus Services sidings and next to Greenwood.
Before the current driving GUI was introduced, switching sides in trains was not possible. In addition, switching sides was never possible on Steam Trains, though they could reverse, which thus required the presence of turntables.
In later versions, when newer systems came out to switch sides on newer trains, turntables were progressively removed, though switching sides could only occur on straight tracks. Shunting had also played a part in phasing out turntables. Since the release of Version 1.0, drivers can switch sides without the fear of derailing, and there are thus no more turntables in game.
Trivia
- The turntable at Pallion Harbour could not be used after the Dovedale Central revamp as there was no lever to change its point.
