The Class 43, also known as the High Speed Train or HST, is a Diesel-Electric locomotive which pulls 6 MK3 coaches in a top-tail formation. It was originally an admin only train before being released to the public in Version 6540.
The Class 43 can be spawned at 2 locations around the map and currently has 4 liveries.
- The Great Wington livery can be spawned at Masonfield Sidings and is a parody of the Great Western Trains livery. It was used from 1996 up until 2006 and was nicknamed the Great Western "Merlin".
- The Intercity livery can be spawned at Masonfield Sidings and is based of the livery for the InterCity sector of British Rail. It was used from 1987 up until privatisation in 1996 and was nicknamed the InterCity "Swallow".
- The Virquin CrossCountry (Sometimes abbreviated to Virquin XC) livery can be spawned at Cosdale Harbour Sidings and is a parody of the Virgin CrossCountry livery. It was used by the company from 1997 until they were transferred to the Arriva-owned CrossCountry brand in 2007.
- The Marigot Mainline livery can be spawned at Cosdale Harbour Sidings and is a parody of the Midland Mainline teal livery. It was used from privatisation in 1996 until 2004 when Midland Mainline underwent a rebrand which saw a new colour-scheme.

Trivia
- The original Class 43 liveries used to spawn on the same platform at Masonfield, though at different sections of it.
- Before the Class 43 was publicly released it was an admin-only train. It is the most notable example of an admin-only train becoming availble to the public, with a similar thing happening to the Class 411.
- It is the fastest train in the game, with a top speed of 125mph.
- The class 43 is the oldest train in the game, being added in an update that pre-dates semantic version numbers; Version 6540.
- The two oldest liveries for the class 43 are both Cross-country liveries. The Virquin CrossCountry livery was based on the Virgin CrossCountry brand from 1996 until 2007, with the CrocsCounty livery being based on the CrossCountry brand which was formed when Arriva took over the Virgin CrossCountry brand. While both of these liveries existed together prior to Version 1.0, the Virquin CrossCountry livery was removed in Version 1.0 for unknown reasons. By the time it was added back to the game in Version 2.0, the CrocsCountry livery had been removed as it was no longer in the games time period.
