Perthtyne Crossing is a Automatic Open Crossing Locally Monitored level crossing located between Gleethrop End and Perthtyne.
This level crossing was added in Version 1.2.0, alongside Masonfield Crossing.
Operation
This level crossing is unique in that it lacks any barriers and relies on drivers or train staff for safe operation (hence the name, "Automatic Open Crossing Locally Monitored"). The level crossing has two parts, the crossing itself (alarms and warning lights) and the Level Crossing Indicator. The Level Crossing Indicators have two different indications, flashing red and flashing white.
- Flashing Red - Stop before reaching the level crossing, ensure that it is safe before proceeding over it.
- Flashing White - The level crossing is working normally and providing that the level crossing is clear, it is safe to proceed over it.
The operation for the level crossing is different depending on the direction the driver is approaching.
For trains coming from Gleethrop End, the level crossing will activate automatically. Only thing the driver need to do is ensure that the Level Crossing Indicator is flashing white and whistle accordingly before proceeding over the level crossing. There is however a plunger on this side just in case the level crossing failed to activate automatically.
For trains coming from Perthtyne, the operation is largely different. There will be a stop sign with instructions saying that the driver must operate the plunger and check for obstruction before departing. After the driver pressed the plunger, the level crossing alarms and light will activate automatically (this will also activate the nearby footpath crossing at Perthtyne). Afterwards, the driver has to observe that the Level Crossing Indicator is flashing white accordingly before proceeding over the level crossing.
